Project Summary
Friends of Little Saigon and Inter*Im Community Development Association (ICDA) are seeking, artists, architects designers or group of designers to submit applications for the opportunity to design a sign in the Little Saigon community. This sign will represent the experiences of the Vietnamese-American and ‘Little Saigon’ community. The sign will also provide a map to help people navigate through the Little Saigon neighborhood.
Background
Little Saigon is a vibrant community rich in history. This neighborhood has been a major hub for the Vietnamese cultural, social and commercial activities in the Puget Sound region. Currently, the community faces many challenges due to future high-end development that will happen within or near the neighborhood.
In light of this future growth, there is a need to strengthen the community’s identity through public art, enhancing public spaces, and signage. Friends of Little Saigon have undertaken the task of helping to choose an artist, architect, and designer to design a sign, which will provide the public with a positive and informative portrayal of the history and distinctive characteristic of the Vietnamese community and Little Saigon neighborhood.
An advisory committee has been assembled to develop the process in creating this Request for Proposals. The committee will also select the final three to five proposals. The proposed designs of the semi-finalists will be presented to the community for a public voting. Community will get to vote online or come in person to place a ballot for their favorite design.
